If you were to decide one day to go sky diving, you would be deciding to put your trust not only in the person you are attached to but also in the big piece of material that you are attached to.

You would be deciding to put your entire life in the hands of a stranger and their big bedsheet.

You would trust and jump and they would pull the cord to let out that bed sheet and you would look at the world from a whole new perspective.

It doesn’t matter how much faith you have; it matters how strong the object of your faith is.

It doesn’t matter if you have a little confidence in your parachute, what matters is how strong the parachute is. If you have strong faith in a weak parachute, you’re going to have a bad time.

A lot of us feel like that with the Bible. Diving into it in its entirety with all the gory and confusing bits you feel like it’s like jumping out of a plane. For a lot of us, it’s like jumping out of a plane without a parachute.

When we look at what it says in the context of the world around us it feels like we could lose our whole faith if we were to dive too deeply into it. We might discover things we don’t like and change how we see the whole world.

I find myself in this position from time to time and I think a lot of people do too.

A lot of us think that the Bible isn’t a very strong parachute. God maybe, Jesus, the Holy Spirit from time to time but not the Bible.

If it is strong then it is something that we can stake our lives on, if it’s not then I’d rather not be the one falling through the sky.

We in the Bible Society believe that this book is worth putting our trust in. It is something that we can have confidence in even when there are parts we don’t understand or parts we find difficult.

We believe this due to the evidence surrounding the Bible but also because of its impact on our lives personally.  I have been changed by what it says. I have seen the evidence of its truth in my life and I believe it is worth skydiving with.

Put your trust in this book today. Pick it up and read it. Maybe in the Gospels as you find out who Jesus is. Let it change the way you see the world and the way you live. Maybe you just might get the opportunity to see the world from above and your life will never be the same again.

A great book to read on this topic is “Why Trust the Bible” by Amy Or Ewing which covers everything from “Is the Bible sexist” to “Are the manuscripts reliable” or “How does it hold up against other religious texts”.
