All of us go through difficulties in life. These struggles can take different forms, but they can all result in loss and in some cases can even cause us to experience trauma. As a Bible Society, we have supported Bible-based trauma healing groups across the world which teach Biblical truths that help people to process the difficulties they have experienced in their lives.
In August, we had the privilege of experiencing the first workshop delivered here on the island of Ireland. Pearl Liddle and Colin Gault, trauma healing staff members from the Scottish Bible Society, generously facilitated the session for a small group of church and para-church staff members.
The trauma healing course covers issues such as “If God loves us, why do we suffer”, “What can help our heart wounds heal”, and “How can we forgive others”. Each theme is taught in an interactive and participatory setting from a Biblical perspective.
This initial workshop involved a small number of participants from Northern Ireland as we tried to understand how this might be implemented in our individual contexts. The day was kindly hosted by Windsor Baptist Church, and was coordinated by Kerry Fee.
If trauma healing is something that you or your Church would be interested in, please contact the office and we would love to discuss it further.
We would like to express our thanks to the Scottish Bible Society for providing this workshop and we look forward to a continued partnership in this work in the future.
Please pray as we seek to understand how we can develop this training as a tool; something so relevant to our post-conflict situation here.
