Here’s an introduction to our newest staff member, Mark Wells!
Hello! My name is Mark, I’m married to my wonderful wife, Abi, and we have a wee boy who keeps us very busy. I studied theology at Queen’s University and I have worked in churches for the last seven years with families, children and young people.
I love running and getting outdoors and, as we live in Bangor, I love getting into or onto the water whenever I can.
I’m so excited to have joined the Bible Society Northern Ireland team. It’s a great privilege to be part of an organisation with such a history and global reach.
I’m passionate about people engaging with the Bible here and what that might look like. We are so privileged to have access to so much material around the Bible, but are we and the people around us really engaging with it?
As I start my work here, I think of Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” The Bible is our weapon, it is the means by which we fight for our faith. A soldier knows their weapon inside out. They know where it is at all times. Some are even trained to dismantle and reassemble their weapon blindfolded or in the dark.
Can we say the same about God’s Word for us?
I pray that my work at Bible Society NI will help people to get to know their weapon better as they fight not against people, but “against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6: 12); that they can find the Saviour who loves them within its pages and, through that, be transformed forever. And I certainly pray that for myself as well.
