Just twenty years ago the Berber language was not allowed to be spoken in Algeria (when the country gained independence there was an attempt to get everyone to speak Arabic). Now, although it is not an official language, it is recognised as a national language and people are allowed to speak it.

The first movie shown in Berber was the Jesus film, and the first book published was the Gospel of Luke translated by the Bible Society. The availability of Scripture in Berber has had a significant influence on the people of Algeria.

The Church is growing and the Bible Society is keen to be able to keep up with the demand for Bibles.
