Within the Christian community in Pakistan nearly 60% are women who are illiterate. Literacy levels are low in Pakistan, especially in villages and slum areas. When women do not have this vital skill they are exposed to shame, exploitation and poverty.

The Pakistan Bible Society is partnering with churches to offer literacy training and Scriptures to disadvantaged Christian women in their country. They are supervising the training of teachers, establishing classes in different areas of the country, and providing the Scriptures and resources needed (this includes Scripture portions for New Readers, literacy syllabus books and Urdu Large Print New Testaments).

This important project will help many women learn how to read and write, encourage them to share the Bible with their families, help them to calculate their wages and bills correctly, and boost the status of women in society.
