Albania experienced 50 years of Communist regime and for a long time people were not permitted to translate the Bible. It wasn’t until 2007 that a successful translation of the New Testament in Albanian was completed and people were finally able to read God’s Word in their own language.
There has been a demand for the translation of the Old Testament into Albanian and the Bible Society has worked, with the full and authorized participation of all the churches (Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant), to provide an interconfessional translation of the Old Testament in Albanian.
The translation is now completed. In 2019 the complete Albanian Bible will be printed and distributed for the first time.
